Short synopsis

Rose's Well immerses us in the aftermath of a war in a landscape marred by conflict, where malevolence seeps into the fabric of everyday existence. The film is based on the true story of a 20-year-old woman who was hanged by the Hungarian communist regime in 1954 for the murder of six girls between the ages of 13 and 16. It recounts the time between the last two of these murders and delves deep into Rose’s mind and unfolds as a psychological odyssey with poetic overtones. An unusual story begins through the encounters between Rose and the tender and innocent Maria, revealing both beauty and corruption. The viewer is confronted with fundamental questions, such as what it means to be good or evil, innocent or guilty, and who is the victim and who is the perpetrator. Although she experiences moments of happiness with Maria, Rose’s fate is tragically sealed, like the characters in Greek dramas, when her inner demons resurface and she commits a terrible act of violence.
